Message	are used for radiator fans and they seem to hold up pretty well in that environment. As for the seal, the one I am using is overrated for the application, PTFE coated and carbon-fiber reinforced with a spring loaded lip seal to adjust for wear - not cheap by any means either. Without having done any testing yet on the part it is impossible to say what will wear out first, but my concerns are the same as yours; either the motor or the seal will become a problem eventually.
